Hi
Could any member give any info on life around Sihanoukvile and especially Victory beach where were be staying. My wife and I are really looking forward to going to Cambodia next month and it will be our first time there, we%26#39;ve heard many good stories, especially as my mate has lived there for along time. Any tips, regarding good things to do and any scams to be aware of. Also would a trip up to Siem Reap and the Angkor Wat be recommended for a couple of days or is the travel to difficult. Also any good bars, you know where people from all walks of life come together and enjoy a good welcome chat between travellers.
Sihanoukville %26amp; Victory beachHi Phil
I will be heading to Sihanoukville in about a week and although I have never been there (twice to Cambodia before) I have done a fair amount of research on the place and this website was very helpful

If you%26#39;d like to get up to Siem Reap, you might want to stop and stay the night in Phnom Penh to break up the trip. There are several buses daily from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh (about 4 hours) and then the next day you can take the bus up to Siem Reap (5-6 hours). (I will be doing this route myself!) Angkor Wat is an amazing area and it would be a shame to miss it. Definitley go and spend a few days there if you can. The aforementioned webiste has some good ideas for wining and dining, so have a look at that for starters. Another website is Travelfish. Google it, and have fun!
Sihanoukville %26amp; Victory beachVictory beach is a good clean beach with safe water to swim in , i never found it even remotely crowded and it was always free of garbage , not on a local holidat time , that would be the exception .
On Victory hill you have an entertainment(?) street with various bars of friendly drinkers , just around the corner at the end of walking street is a guest-house %26#39;Mealy-Chenda%26#39; , go inside there and experience a friendly , clean restaraunt that gives about the best value and quality around , they open at 6.30 for breakfast and close around 9.30 p.m.
The travel to Seam-Reap can be accomplished comfortably in one day , buy your tickets the day before at mealy-chenda , catch the early morning bus to PP which takes four and a half hours , not tiring , easily arrive PP for the bus to SR also same journey time , both buses stop half way for a %26#39;Leg-stretch%26#39; and food is available . You may find mealy can book your tickets onwards to SR .
Enjoy your trip and the warm and friendly locals .
