Overnight private taxi hire .

If I wanted to hire a private driver to take me up tp Siem Reap do you have any recommendations ?

As I won%26#39;t be in Cambodia until a day before travelling up to Siem Reap , I don%26#39;t want to end up with no transport .I would much prefer to take the Mekong bus as it%26#39;s only an overnight trip , but if I can%26#39;t get a place on the bus then I%26#39;m happy to pay for a private driver .

Obviously I am only going to use one that is recommended by you yourselves...that%26#39;s if any of you have one of course .

Cathy and Gary have already posted on their travel blog which I%26#39;ve just seen .

So before they say ...I%26#39;ve emailed your friend Sam and hope he can work that time for me .

The Mekong Bus is not an overnight trip. Tickets are usually very easy to get. You can check canbypublications.com for the schedule.

If you%26#39;ve already got hotel/guest house reservations, contact them and have them get the tickets in advance. The bus is $12, a taxi is MUCH more expensive and frankly I think the bus is safer.

Forgot to mention that if you do decide to do a private driver, contact Thary in Phnom Penh to arrange it.

I%26#39;m not sure I would do that trip at night. There are no lights on the road, livestock, people on bikes and on foot everywhere. Semi-dangerous.

But you can ask Thary about it.

Thanks ellenem

I realise I wrote the above wrong...when I said overnight , I meant I was only stopping in SR for one night and the bus may to be long for just one night .

I am going to telephone my hotel and see if they can buy my tickets for me . Can you buy them for a certain date then ? I really don%26#39;t want to be left with no transport or a ticket for the wrong day .

Yes your hotel can buy the tickets for you on a certain date and time. Check the canbypublications schedule and choose the time you want before contacting them. They can also reserve the seat. Don%26#39;t sit in the front row; limited leg room and the constant beeping of the horn will make you daft after a while!

The taxi isn%26#39;t much faster than the bus.....it%26#39;s 5 hours, maybe a bit less if traffic is good. The bus is cheaper, more comfortable and safer.

I can%26#39;t help but ask: why are you only in Siem Reap for one day?
