I%26#39;m having trouble choosing between FCC and Journeys Within, as they both look amazing. I am hesitant about Journeys Within because it looks less convenient to the restaurants, etc. in town. Would appreciate your thoughts as I must decide soon!
Journeys Within vs. FCC Angkor
Journeys Within for the programs they have and to support them in the social work they do locally. The hotel, pool, the food and grounds are lovely.
The Soul-less FCC has a better location.
IMO, in Siem Reap, everything is a $2 tuk-tuk ride away, so location isn%26#39;t as important as it is in other cities.
Journeys Within vs. FCC Angkor
If its not too late here%26#39;s my opinion. I have stayed at 5 different hotels/B%26amp;Bs in Siem Reap, in various price classes. On my last trip I stayed a few days at Journeys Within and it was FANTASTIC! The rooms, the grounds, the pool, the staff, the food, the owners, the associated non-profit, was all excellent. The only disadvantage is indeed the distance outside of town but as someone said, everything is a $2 tuk tuk ride away. If you really want to be in town then you should go for FCC. But if you want a memorable experience you should go with JW and make a point to spend some time with Brandon or one of the guys running some of their fantastic non-profit programs. I gaurantee you, this additional aspect will give your trip a totally different and rewarding perspective.
Be forewarned though: by spending some time at JW you could get bit by the Cambodian giving back bug and find you have an irresistible urge to give something back to the beautiful Cambodian people.
You must stay at Journeys Within, we stayed there in March with 2 kids and had a fantastic time. Aside from the fact that the b%26amp;b is beautiful and the staff are great, you learn so much more about Cambodia and the people by staying there and are supporting a great cause. The location never bothered us, they will always call a tuk tuk for you when you want to go into town, part of the fun for our kids. If you stay at JW you get a great insight into their work in the community and can get involved if you want to. The daily free washing is also a godsend.
We wouldn%26#39;t stay anywhere else when we return
Hi!
Interesting topic. I am also visiting Siem Reap soon and Journeys Within is one my my top choices. My other choice is Soria moria hotel in town. Like S323, i am also worried about the location of Journeys Within. Is it safe to travel back at night to Journeys Within? How many kilometres is Journey Within situated away from the town centre? I cannot seem to find a good map detailing where exactly Journeys Within is. Would appreciate any feedback.
JW is about 5 - 8 minutes from town by tuk tuk and there is no safety issue to be worried about. It is a bit more expensive than Soria Moria though. It is though quite an usual place. The food is great and the attention to the guests is really special. Perhaps most unique, and I believe the real reason to stay there, is to take some time and see and learn a bit about today%26#39;s Cambodia and Cambodian people thru the eyes of the owners and the folks at the associated non-profit on the grounds next door. They are willing and able to share with their guests, who have or make the time, a unique, heart-touching and inspiring experience. It can really turn a fantastic holiday seeing Angkor Wat into an even more impressive emotional and lasting experience.
Selamat Jalan when you go (been to many times and love Malaysia)
Thanks Lennybruce! We have decided on Journeys Within and cant wait to go. Do come by Malaysia again. The beaches are fantastic =)
