Hey,
If you have some free time while in Siem Reap, I really recommend going to the Vietnamese floating village. Most people tend to focus on Angkor while here, but this is an amazing chance to see how they live everyday.
Just thought I%26#39;d share!
Vietnamese floating village in Siem Reap
Can you give me more information please?
Thanks Lindy.
Vietnamese floating village in Siem Reap
of course.
The floating village is approximately a 30-40 minute drive outside of Siem Reap, depending upon the condition of the road. It is not paved, and is actually mud, so depending on the season it can be a bit rough.
The village is located on the largest lake in Cambodia, and it moves with the water patterns. We got on a boat at Phnom Kron, which will take you onto lack Tonle Sap. It took about 10 minutes to get to the village. Renting a boat is inexpensive.
Once there, you can see their floating houses. They live, bath, fish and cook using the water. It was simply amazing... they even farm alligators there (I think they were alligators, I cant tell the difference between them and crocodiles.. and didn%26#39;t want to get close enough to find out).
It was well worth the time.
Hope this helps!
Thankyou for your reply.
We have been to Vietnam and love it and thought maybe we could get some authentic Vietnamese food whilst checking out the floating village??
I have been to Siem Reap before and would like to find something different to do while there.
Lindy.
There are two villages. I would recommend floating village TWO. It%26#39;s further than the first one, but amazing. It was amazing when we went because it was the end of the rainy season, so Tonle Sap was almost full!
We hired tuk tuk and boat. Cost $25 I think. Was one hour out of the city. Boat ride was over an hour. Boat broke down a couple of times. But one expects these things in Asia!
The village at end of the mud road is worth a look around. also the temple to the right just after police check we had to pay to enter the village. We also took a bag of sweets for the children and made friends for life!
you can do both villages in a day, the first one is the larger one called chong kneas.approx 6000 people mainly floating village.the road is very good .the other is a smaller one approx 2500 people and is called kompong phluk, the flooded forrest is interesting as well.we did both www.taraboat.com also if you get the time prek toal is well worth the trip the bird sauntary entry fee to this is $40 per person
yes its very interesting, one company i can recommend that do these tours is the tara riverboat www.taraboat.com they employ only local staff the guides are from the villages and well run.with no hidden costs to worry about.the whole lake and river systems are unique in the way they are formed and the yearly cycle of reverse flow of the tonle sap lake.a visit to the enviromental centre whilst you are out on the lake will explain the importance of the lake to the ecomony of cambodia..also can recommend the sunset tour as very relaxing
Bare in mind what time of year you go. End of the rainy season is good because the water is at it%26#39;s highest level.
We will be there early March, so the water level will be low???
regardless wheather the water level is high or low its a very interesting time out there..would recommend however doing the half day tour at least as some tours only do about 30 mins on the lake and you dont see much
