Hi all,
As part of a trip to visit a friend in Singapore, we are extendig our trip and are heading to Cambodia for 6 days (Thu 4th to Wed 10th June). We are flying in and out of Phnom Penh.
Our (rough) plan at the moment is: Day or so in Phnom Penh, take speedboat up Mekong River from Phnom Penh to Siam Reap, visit Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom maybe heading back to Phnom Penh and ending up with a bit of a beach holiday in Sihanoukville to end proceedings?
Just wondering if we%26#39;re making the most of our time? Are we missing out on anythign special?
Also, it would be good to know any good hotels in Sihanoukville, Siam Reap and Phnom Penh and hows the best way to get around etc.
I have read alot of my rough guide but just wondering if there%26#39;s anything i%26#39;ve missed.
Thanks in advance.
6 days in Cambodia, suggestions, tips and what to do?!
Wow, 6 days to cram 3 places seems a bit rushed. if it were me I would only do SR and PP. Could you maybe even fly between SR and PP to give yourself more time? Otherwise it seems to me you will spend a lot of time in transit.
At a push, you could see the main sights in PP in a day, so if your flight is the same as ours with Jetstar you will get in early into PP and have that whole day to play with. Check in to your hotel, dump the bags and get a tuk tuk to ferry you around. Do the National Museum, a quick trip around the Royal Palace/Silver Pagoda and then off to Tuol Sleng and then the Killing Fields. If you%26#39;ve done temples in Bangkok then you could give the Royal Palace a miss if time is not on your side. I guess even the National Museum could be missed if you%26#39;re not into that sort of thing.
In SR you should spend 3 whole days there, definitely 2 for the main temples and then a day to see other things, unless of course you want to dedicate all 3 to temples. That wouldn%26#39;t give you much more time to dash off to a beach I don%26#39;t think. Maybe spend a day chilling by a pool instead?
As for hotels, we stayed at the Pavilion in PP (walking distance to Royal Palace and Nat Museum) and the Day Inn in SR, both we were happy with and I would go back to. Day Inn has a great sized pool!
Hope you have a lovely trip there, whatever you decide on!

I like Ream more than Sihanoukville. It%26#39;s about 20 km from Sihanoukville and less known: hence less touristy :p

I%26#39;d have to agree with artemis1. You may feel too rushed if try to cram too much in. I am beach lover but I%26#39;d expect you%26#39;ll have much better beaches in Thailand which is why I passed in Cambodia during my 6 days; 5 nights. Do your research on the boat as while traveling for several weeks in SE Asia this past summer I met many who had experiences that took way longer on the boat than they%26#39;d expected and planned. You might want to consider the Mekong Express. It was about five hours, cheap (and I bought two seats per TA recommendations) and a fantastic way to see the countryside. I really enjoyed it and met some great travelers. Also stayed in the Pavillion in PP and loved it. Artemis1 is right, if you%26#39;ve been to the Royal Palace in Bangkok, then you can skip in PP. In SR, I stayed in Viroth%26#39;s and it was likea mini ';W Hotel'; if you know that hotel in the states. Very reasonable and the staff was amazing. Get a blind massage in SR. I%26#39;m happy to recommend a tuk tuk driver who proved to be a fantastic guide with excellent English. He invited a group of us to a Cambodian wedding celebration that was a unique experience. A dinner with 800 locals. Feel free to email if you%26#39;d like more info. Enjoy!
Hi Ebor,
I also think that you are trying to cram in too much.
4 days in SR and 2 in PP would be my recommendation.
You can check out my JBR (Cambodia... Just wonderful) for an idea of how we spend 3 days in SR. Don%26#39;t miss Preah Khan early in the morning before the crowds arrive - scerene and just beautiful.
We were so taken with Cambodia and her people that we%26#39;re going back next year and intend to spend 5 days in PP and 10 in SR.
It would also take a month to eat your way round SR.
happy planning
Helen
Hi Ebor337 The jetboat ride up the Tonle sap (not the Mekong river) to Siam Reap is a boat trip of a lifetime. Sit or stand on the roof for the best views. In Phnom Penh we used the motor bikes all the time. Try a meal at Friends.A restaurant for the street children to learn a trade. And you must have a drink at the FCC overlooking the river.
