Sim Cards

Can anyone tell me if it is easy to buy sim cards. I have read on another forum that it is difficult and you have to be a Cambodian resident!

All help greatly recieved.

Sim Cards

Well bought a local sim card (cellular) for $5 US, then added $20 to it. Bought it from a mobile place off the Russian Market. BTW I%26#39;m not cambodian!!

Sim Cards

You can buy a 016 number if you%26#39;re without Khmer ID. Locals have access to 012 011 etc numbers. Doesn%26#39;t really matter.

Just tell the vendor you e-mail to Hun Sen and he said it is okay for you to buy a sim card , as all people are welcome to Cambodia , which they are .

Can anyone recommend a place to buy a Sim card in Siem Reap? Would $20 added to the card be enough to contact drivers, hotels etc for two weeks? Only to confirm bookings etc, not to have long conversations. Probably maximum two calls per day.

Thanks

Thank you for the replies, I arrive in Cambodia a week before my niece%26#39;s and they are concerned about many things!!!!! Having access to mobile phone%26#39;s to contact each other if we are doing seperate actvities is important to them!

Can you buy these sim cards at the Airport?

This is their first overseas trip! So this is for their comfort as well as mine!

There are numerous cell phone vendors selling phones %26amp; SIM cards as you head towards the Central market, but not all of them carry the 016 number (which is the card that can be sold to foreigners without question). Sorya Market (right near the Central Market) has it%26#39;s own Happy shop, which specializes in the 016 SIM and you can buy the number %26amp; credit for it there. They will ask for your passport to process it.

You can buy an 016 number SIM at one of the many phone shops outside the market as well and you can buy cards for credit for the phone in $3, $5 and $10 denominations. A $10 card will be plenty for 2 weeks%26#39; worth of local calls. The 016 SIM expires after 1 year and will be rendered useless, so if you have any credit left on it at the end of your trip, pass it on to a local! Cheers!

That%26#39;s fantastic info. thank you.

Double thanks.
