Air Asia

Hi all,

I am looking at flights from Bangkok to Phnom Penh and Air Asia prices seem to be an absolute bargain (compared to other airlines), eg, £80 return. Does anyone know of any catches whereby extra fees in addition to those quoted on the website are charged when you actually travel?

Air Asia

great prices, but they have a reputation for being less reliable than the other airlines - late notice of cancellation etc, and their luggage limit is low - 15kg, with huge excess charges

Air Asia

Hi,

From what I can gather, the excess baggage works out at £3 per kg, which is a worthwhile trade off against the very cheap fares. The reliability issue is more of a concern!

We have flown AA several times, both longhaul and domestic. No hidden catches. Baggage limit is a little light on but we manage and the flight is strictly no frills. You pay for all extras on board including bottles drinking water.

As for flight delays, touch wood, all our flights have been on time or no more that 10 minutes late.

Hi Bob and Janette,

Thanks for the response. Great website you have. I found the Cambodia travel page very insightful. If you have any recommendations, I am open to advice!!

Matt.

AA is no thrills flight - nice looking FA(s) though. :D If just doing a quick trip normally use left luggage check at Swampy and use a duffel bag for short trip elsewhere. Get under the low luggage requirements easy that way.

Never had an issue with AA - always been on time, but they are stickler for luggage and closing the checkin, so get there an a few hrs early for checkin.

Please pay attention on AirAsia and Thai AirAsia. Airasia Aircraf are all Airbus 320 wihle The Thai ones are old Boing jets B627?. I am not sure what type of boing aircraf they are ,but it was small, pretty old and very unpleasant. I cant jump to any conclusion about the safety, but it looks unsafe to me. Flight attendents were kinda of rude, no offense. I feel they treat us for what we are paying for.

I flew them twice and never want to fly them again.

I’ve had about 12 flights with AirAsia over the past 3 or 4 years and have been quite happy with all of them - have booked them to fly BKK to HCMC and PP back to BKK in March 2009.

From my experience - they usually leave about 30 minutes late but generally make up some of the lost time and arrive about 10 minutes late.

We were rained in at Hanoi airport last month and all flights were either cancelled or delayed. AirAsia even provided a meal (if you call a cold hotdog and bottle of water a meal) and arranged a larger aircraft to carry all passengers to BKK. Better than I was expecting.

They will notify you by email or sms if a flight time is changed. This has happened to me a couple of times, so check your email or their web site.

For the price I guess I adjust my expectations down but they are my preferred airline for short distance trips (2 hours or less) across Asia.
