I am planning a trip to Vietnam around mid Jan and would also like to visit Cambodia. I have family living in Ho chi min city, so will not need a hotel there. How far is Hanoi from Ho chi min city? Is it worth going to Hanoi?
How far is Phomn phen from ho chi min, can i travel by road, or should i take a flight? I also want to see Angkor wat.
How many days are required in each of the places.I will be travelling with my husband, his parents and my two daughters, will need to stay in clean hotels, in safe areas.
Travel agents and members of trip advisor, please help me plan my vacation.
Need help to plan my trip to cambodia and vietnam.
Hi Pooj,
Hanoi is a 2hr flight from HCMC - beautiful city
I%26#39;d add Hoi An and Nha Trang to your itinerary too - check them out on the vietnam TA forum
Check out my trip Report ';JBR... Cambodia Just Wonderful'; from mid October this year - might give you some ideas
To do justice to Angkor Wat I%26#39;d allow 2 full days
How old are your children and how mobile are your parents - these two things may impact because many of the Angkor temples require a level of physical fitness to see properly - you have to be able to climb stairs and navigate your way around very large chunks of rock.
also check out canbypublications.com/siemreap/srhome.htm
I found it very useful when putting together my trip plans
can happily recommend the %26#39;Day Inn Resort%26#39; - check it out on this site. I also have a great tuk tuk driver (send me a PM if you%26#39;d like contact details )- you will need 2 tuk tuks for your family and I%26#39;m sure Suwan would have a friend who could join him.
You will love Cambodia - it is truly a magic place.
Hope this helps
Helen
Need help to plan my trip to cambodia and vietnam.I spent a week each in Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi (flew between the cities) and loved it. There is plenty to do, and the food is amazing. If you are into ruins and history and walking aorund, then I would give the Angkor area AT LEAST 3 full days. There are passes for 1-day, 3-days and 1-week visits and the mulitple day passes must be used consecutively. Also try to spend at least 2 full days in Phnom Penh to see the sights adn soak up the atmosphere. You can easily travel overland from Vietnam to Cambodia but it will obviously take more time than if you opt to fly.
I did a 2 week trip of Vietnam with a bit of Cambodia and it was brilliant.
Vietnam - I%26#39;d agree with adding in Hoi An - was one of my favourite places, really pretty laid back and with a nice beach. Its really charming and would appeal to all ages I think. Can either get an overnight train from HCM (about 17 hours) or fly to Danang (1 hour) which is then 25km%26#39;s from Hoi An.
Ha Noi was nice - when we were there it had torrential rain so didn%26#39;t get to see as much as we likes - but its a great base to do trips to Halong Bay which I think is a must when in Vietnam.
Cambodia - overland is possible but time consuming and if the children are young then I%26#39;d suggest flying - only an hour%26#39;s flight but this does depend on your budget I guess. Angkor is fantastic and we did 2 full days and 1 half a day and that was enough. But as previously stated need to be able to walk and be easily mobile to really experience it properly.
Hope this helps...
Verity
