Should I go to Siem Reap or Cambodia not a fan of History ?

Highest regards for Angkor Wat...but Im from India and not a big fan of history or ruins / temples since you see them everywhere in my country....However Cambodia seems interesting to me and I would like to visit there.

I like to see locaal rural villages, rivers and local scenery, good beaches and siem reap is usually the starting point for everyone....Anything happening in Siem Reap except ';Angkor';. what would you pik between Siem Reap, Phnom Phen and Battambang ??? Ive heard beaches in thailand are better than in Sihanoukville .

I would like to visit Laos but since im planning to visit Koh Chang in Thailand, Cambodia is easier access.

Should I still visit Siem reap, go somewhere else in Cambodia OR go visit Thailand yet again !!! ??

Hello,

sorry, this is not the answer what you are about,

but in my opinion, however, I have never been to Angkor, and I`m not a big fan of ruins or temples.

ANGKOR is a MUST SEE once in your life !!

Yes,

Angkor Wat is amazing, we went there last year, but we will be in Siem Reap again in March because I loved the people , food ,rural scenery etc.

I liked SR more than Phnom Penh, but that%26#39;s just my opinion.

This time SR will be for some R and R after a trip to KL and Penang.

Lindy.

Honestly e biggest highlight of Siem Reap would b angkor wat n e surrounding temples.. including temples such as ta phrom n beng mealea which r overrun by trees n r really in ruins.. if temples r really not ya thing (as u said)then perhaps u might wana give SR a miss.. e local villages / scenaries etc might not b such a big diff from india..

however there%26#39;s still e akira mine museum n killing fields n tonle sap lake in cambodia tat might b interesting for u though..

i guess we are not temple fans either but siem reap has a lot more going for it,,,its heaps better than thailand unless you just want to shop..

I am not a fan of ruins either! I had to think hard whether to get a 1 day or 3 days ticket before the trip. In the end I went for the 3 days ticket and also included a visit to Beng Melea, it was wonderful. Get a 1 day ticket if you are not sure, the rest of the time you can visit Tonle Sap, silk farm, Artisan d%26#39;Angkor, the market ...

If you don%26#39;t like history, temples, or ruins, and you want a beach, go back to Thailand yet again. What you have heard is correct: Thai beaches are better than Sihanoukville.

Phnom Penh would be where you%26#39;d want to stay if Angkor Wat doesnt interest you. Not much else in Siem Reap to be completely honest - very laid back/quiet! However that being said - Angkor Complex is impressive and one of those things you want to say you%26#39;ve seen in your lifetime.

The thing about Sihanook-ville and its beaches is that the water is far less poluted than most of those in Thailand and less crowded , they are also far less comercialised , so you will get more of the rural feel you mentioned . The locals are happy and friendly around sihanook-ville , Thai have tended to become not so friendly , especially since the huge decline in tourists , many tourists have changed thier destination to Cambodia .

One more point , there are a variety of beaches all within a short moto ride for a dollar or two .
