I have assumed that it%26#39;s possible to do this at the border (Ving Xuong), as with some land and airport entry to Vietnam. But it would be reassuring if someone could confirm this!

Unfortunately, you can%26#39;t get visa on arrival. If you fly into Vietnam, you can. Are you taking a boat from PP? We did this trip Nov last year and had to get our visa in our passports before hand.
Maybe it%26#39;s changed or someone else knows of a way to organise this at the boarder.

That%26#39;s a blow! We leave on Sunday for Thailand, Oz then Cambodia before Vietnam at the start of Feb, so perhaps we can get a visa in Melbourne or Siem Reap - anyone know?
This is most strange , a poster in the hotel buisiness for 13 years , was most adamant , you cannot get a visa on arrival when you fly into Vietnam . I went on the HMC bus , got off at the border and got a 30 day visa on arrival , there realy needs to be some clarification here from somebody .
last time i went we needed a visa beforehand , we flew into Hanoi and eventually exited at chau doc into cambodia a few weeks later.
