Are advance accommodation reservations necessary?

Are advance accommodation reservations necessary for this month? Or can I just show up and be able to find something clean %26amp; quiet with hot water/double bed?

I arrive Jan 11th for about a week in Siem Reap area, and a month total around Cambodia, including Battambang, and coast.

Also, same question for the rest of the major tourist towns in Cambodia?

Dec - Jan is peak tourist seasons..... when we visited in Dec, we tried booking in advance at about 4 different guesthouses, and all were booked out. We ended up only be able to get a twin bed room, despite being a couple! I think it really depends how many of you are travelling. If you%26#39;re a solo traveller, you%26#39;re more likely to find a lodging than a larger group at this time of the year.

I%26#39;d suggest find a good guesthouse on tripadvisor, and book in advance. It will only cost you $10US a night for the cheaper end, and still clean with hot water.

while there are sooooooo many hotels in siem reap, i had a hard time booking a hotel as early as august for my december trip.

i suggest you book ahead as it is still peak season until february and get a hotel that%26#39;s near the downtown and an easy walk to pubstreet.
