Angkor tour for less-abled?

Hello, I%26#39;m traveling with a friend whose had knee surgery to Angkor around Christmas (very unlucky as its been a dream of theirs to go for years). I understand there is a lot of walking on a tour of Angkor. Are there any options for tours of smaller temples with minimal walking, or is it possible to hire a wheel chair? Any tips would be appreciated! Cheers

Really the ground is far to uneven for a wheel chair but also the place is too big to walk around.

It is very common to hire and air-conditioned car and driver for $25-$50 depending on how far you plan to travel. Any hotel or travel agent in Siem Reap can do this for you - they only need to know the night before.

So having been there 3 times I would suggest you hire a car anyway to get you between the different sites and then crutches would be better than a wheel chair for getting around the actual temples.

Many of the temples have wooden walkways so you can see the main parts of several temples without climbing or a great number of stairs eg: Ta Promh (the one with the trees) but others like Pre Rup are all about climbing to the top so you would probably choose to skip those. here is a good guide to Siem Reap available at most hotels mentioning the hhighlist of each temple.

Having the option of a wheel chair might be good for Angkor Wat itself as the walk to the temple is quite long but again having the crutches with you too would be good for the places where there are some stairs.

The place was not designed with the dis-abled in mind but I still think your friend would enjoy it - even without leaving the car there is alot to see.

Best of luck.

Thanks you so much! This is really helpful.

I agree, there is still so much to see. I have a back problem and someone told me I would not be able to enjoy the temples because it would be too hard!!!

Well we went in June this year , and there was lots I could do and see, so much that I am going back there in March next year.

Enjoy, Lindy.
