A safe place to to keep $$$$$$I used to wear one of those %26#39;Fanny packs %26#39; , you know , the bag that straps around your body , kept my passport and money plus my note book with pertinant information in .
A safe place to to keep $$$$$$thanks for your reply, although i already have a money belt i am feeling like it could be just a little risky keeping everything on my person....
You d better keep the money with you, but dont hang out alone late at night to somewhere quiet and dark. And dont pull out the whole big bunch of money of your pocket when you pay. Put them in different pockets or bags in somewhere not easily found.
Trust your common sense, and you ll be fine.
I have been to Phnom Penh many times, nothing bad ever happened, it is safe, but you should be alerted.
You%26#39;ve gotten good advise here.
The safest place to keep your money is in the bank IMO. There are ATM%26#39;s all over PP. Take it out when you need it. Spread it around in pockets.
Keeping your wits about you is the main thing.
concerning the previous reply, that would be fantastic, but are you sure a foreigner, especially a backpacker who possesses tourism visa can open a bank account there?
By the way, billyfromphilly01, you should inquire ANZ Royal bank, and/or ACLEDA bank about that.
I wasn%26#39;t implying you should get a local account; I was thinking you could keep your money in your own bank and then withdraw it in Cambodia.
And yes, a foreigner can open an account if you can prove you live there and have the proper identification, visas, etc.
thanks for all your help!! -bill
Besides being carefull with your cash also insist on the US dollars that are very new and not torn or old as the Cambodians only like new money, so watch your $50 and $ 20 and make sure that they are nice.I got some $ US currency from my Aust bank before leaving and some restaurants wouldn%26#39;t accept them. This leads to another game of trying to palm them off onto someone who is more deperate for the cash or standing your ground and saying that is all you have except back at your accomodation you may get a free-ride home or thye will cave in and accept it.Best to start with nice crisp high value notes than older ones.
Go to the Pacsafe.com website. They have just the product u r looking 4. It%26#39;s essentially a portable safe with wire mesh inside the lining and a steel cable to lock it with. I can vouch 4 this product w/o hesitation. Bon voyage!!
