Here%26#39;s the CDC%26#39;s information, which you should carefully review. wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/destinationCambodia.aspx

Then, you should visit your doctor for advice that takes into consideration your personal health history, risks, medication you are taking, the length of your trip, where and how you are traveling, as well as the level of risk you are comfortable with.

Do not trust your health to strangers on the internet who post anecdotal evidence of their experience of getting or not getting malaria with or without medication. Anecdotes are not data.

malaria

The docotors I work with here in Japan have no idea about malaria. Most Japanese travelers go on tours and stay in 5-star hotels which minimizes the (usually) minimal risk of contracting malaria in Southeast Asia.

On a personal note, I visit Laos %26amp; Thailand 2-3 times a year, and Cambodia annually. I stay in rural areas (usually low-medium malarial risk areas) and sleep under a mosquito net. In the daytime I use a DEET-based mosquito repellent and usually opt for long pants when outside. Malaria-carrying mosquitoes bite during the morning and evening hours, however dengue-carrying mosquitoes bite ALL DAY! There are no anti-dengue medications, so my advice is use the repellents and cover up. You might do a search for Dengue Fever on the CDC site and note that it is likely more prevalent in the areas you will be visiting than malaria.
