Hey everyone
My hubby and I are off to backpack SEA AGAIN! and we%26#39;re just wanting an itinerary suggestion for Cambodia and Laos.
Unfortunately we%26#39;ve only got 20 days to do this. Are we being a bit too eager, or do you think we can see the majority of these places in this time?
We%26#39;ve been to Siem Reap for 4 days last november, before travelling vietnam, and so we%26#39;ve done the long busy 3 day big and small temple loop, so we%26#39;d be happy with perhaps just a day and night in SR, so I guess that saves us that time, but we%26#39;re completely lost with the rest.
We%26#39;ve only just decided this today a month out and haven%26#39;t had time to look through forums in detail yet, but would love to hear from those of you that have done it.
also, booking airfares shortly, air asia (international from australia) any negatives apart from time delay and baggage etc - ie safety?? we flew internally through thailand with them in 07 and found them a bit dodgy but were happy enough for $20, but i was a bit concerned as an international flight?
thanks guys!
Jo :)
Itinerary suggestions? Cambodia and Laos independant trip
We have flown Goldie to Kl several times and then on to other connections with AA and are very happy for what we pay. I%26#39;m an aircraft tech so I take notice of things and have no complaints. We travel light so 15kg luggage is fine.
From KL AA fly direct to Phnom Penh, visa on arrival very simple. We stayed at Billabong hotel and loved it. Great saltwater swimming pool and good breakfast. You need a couple of days to take in PP and make sure you do half price happy hour cocktails at Raffles Hotel (6-8pm daily).
A 2 hr bus trip will get you to Sihanoukville which is a great laid back beach resort area. We stayed at Deja Rava a nice guesthouse about 5 minutes walk from the beach.
After Sihanoukville it is basically bus back to PP. Sorry can%26#39;t advise on Laos as that is another trip for us.

Itinerary suggestions? Cambodia and Laos independant tripWhere exactly in Lao do you want to go?
You may need to get a good guide book or go download one of those ';chapter books'; from LP.

Where will you be flying into/out of?
Without knowing what your interests are or your travel style, it%26#39;s hard to make recommendations, but I would say a loop from Phnom Penh, to the beach at Sihanoukville, to Siem Reap then onward to Luang Prabang would be a nice enough trip.
With 20 days you could add on Battambang or the Plain of Jars in Laos.
