Elephants

Hey guys

I know its big in Thailand and Laos, but is there anywhere in Cambodia where I can take an elephant for a ride?

Cheers!!

The only place I know is Siem Reap within the temple complex. There is the $10 ride to Bayon temple at 7am or the 5pm ride at the sunset viewing temple for $15 uphill %26amp; $10 downhill.

I think the Bayon ride is the better one

We didn%26#39;t have an elephant ride but .. the ride from near South Gate to the Bayon is $10 and you can do this for more of the day than just 7am mentioned in the previous post. They do stop mid afternoon. Our tuk-tuk guy said the elephants rest up before the sunset rides up to Phnom Bakheng.

cheers

If you go to Wat Phnom, in Phnom Penh (only a few minutes walk form the main riverside area) there is always an elephant ';on duty'; and they offer rides.

Are the elephants in SR mistreated? I really would like to take an elephant ride on my birthday, but when I%26#39;ve mentioned it to some of my animal-loving friends they are mortified and claim elephants in Asia are treated worse than elephants in the circus in the U.S. Anyone have any insight on this?

I%26#39;ve heard the elephants going up and down the hill to Phnom Bakheng (the very famous sunset spot) are well looked after.... and I%26#39;ve got no proof to the contrart to say they%26#39;re not.

You can climb the hill to the sunset for $20 per peson, and $15 on the way day (or you can walk down). The queues to get up can be quite big though, so better to get your driver to make an advance booking, or get there by at least 4.30pm (for the sunset).
