Leng Tek, our great Siem Reap guide

My wife and I just came back from a wonderful 5-day trip to Siem Reap, of which 3 were spent with Tek.

Having read so much about him in this forum built up some expectations on our part, but we%26#39;re happy to report that he came through with flying colours : )

It was easy to warm up to him. Speaking good English, thoughtful and jovial, we were trading jokes before the end of the first day.

He knew when to visit the attractions, and from which direction we should approach, to avoid the crowds.

Being a new father, he was brimming with pride when he showed us pictures of his baby girl.

Some travellers may feel that there is no need for guides, but we benefited much from Tek%26#39;s vivid stories and explanations of the different attractions%26#39; lintels, pediments and wall carvings.

Overall, a great guy who%26#39;s service will not disappoint.

Tek%26#39;s email is lengtek@yahoo.com.

How much is the base rate for guide

Leng Tek, our great Siem Reap guide

It used to be US$25 a day, but it has seen gone up to US$30.

Note that driver with car is a separate charge, also around US$30.

I agree! I had Tek as my guide too. He%26#39;s now a father?? Great news!

Tek was our guide in early March for 6 days, we went to remote temples, Angkor Thom %26amp; Preak Toal Bird Sanctuary... he was funny, entertaining, reliable %26amp; very knowledgeable as he%26#39;s been guiding for 8 years (certified to guide in the capitol of PP too).

Tek%26#39;s wife gave birth to their first child, a baby girl named Rachna

Rose, in late June, so she%26#39;s 4 months old... she spends weeks with his wife%26#39;s mother in the countryside. Since Tek%26#39;s wife is half-Chinese, the mixture of Khmer/Chinese has produced a beautiful baby!

I just heard from Tek today that guiding is very slow due to the world economy... so it%26#39;s great to hear that you hired him.

Licensed guides are NOT allowed to drive %26amp; drivers are not allowed to enter the temples. A Toyota w/ A/C with a driver will cost $25, it%26#39;s worth it for the free, bottled, cooled water %26amp; towels, someone to watch your belongings while your wonderful guide takes you to less crowded entrances %26amp; lesser known areas at the temples.

We were lucky to be allowed to stay after closing at Banteay Srei because Tek KNEW the guard. It%26#39;s definitely worth it.

Tek can be emailed at LengTek@yahoo.com

Seems like you%26#39;re still very much in touch with Tek!

: )
