Phnom Penh to Siem Reap (transportation)

I can%26#39;t decide whether to

1.) Fly?

2.) Bus

3.) Private Car

Is there anything to see on the road? Are there any small towns to visit along the way? Is it worth the trouble to be on the road instead of flying? If it%26#39;s worth the trouble to be on the road, are the towns/sights along the way worth a few stops to get a private car/driver/guide or is the bus enough to see some local life?

I%26#39;ll be in Cambodia for 4 days and I%26#39;m trying to soak up as much culture as possible. With the below itinerary, I%26#39;d like to get most out of the Phenom Penh to Siem Reap transport time, if possible.

day 1: afternoon arrival to phnom penh

day 2: phnom penh to siem reap

day 3: siem reap and angkor thom, angkor wat etc

day 4: siem reap and more angkor wat, banteay srei, floating village, tonle sap lake

day 5: fly out

what do you think? thanks!

Also can take a boat - nice lazy way to see bit of the countryside floating up the river.

Hi gem77,

it seems you lack of time in Cambodia; Flying to Siem Reap will save you precious time to visit temples.

Btw, I notice you do not plan to stay in PP to visit the city. So can%26#39;t you fly directly to Sieam Reap and skip Phnom Penh?

I do have the afternoon of the day 1 free to take a look at the city of phnom penh. Depending on how I choose to get to Siem Reap on day 2, I might have more time in the morning of day 2 to hang out in phnom penh.

Also, I%26#39;m not too into temples. I just want to see the major important ones. I think two days of temples are more than sufficient for me.

I just want to be able add some local culture/life into the trip. It basically comes down to where in cambodia. On the road? in PP? in Siem Reap?

Thanks.
