Mekong Delta trip from Phnom Penh to HCMC

Hi,

I am trying to find information on doing an overnight (or 2 night maximum) trip on the Mekong Delta from Phnom Penh to Saigon. There is an overwhelming amount of info about going from HCMC to PP on such a trip, they are plentiful and quite reasonably priced but I am drawing an absolute blank finding a trip leaving from Phnom Penh and ending up in Saigon!

If anyone can help with this I would be very grateful as I have moved my itinerary around loads and this one is the best by far but frustratingly it means I can%26#39;t do the boat trip the other way around so its PP-SGN or nothing (well the other option is flying. Again. Yawn!)

Thanks Cambodia Experts!

I would think the Aussie company who run the Victoria Hotel group would be the people who make that trip, not sure if it would involve a night stop though , what it will be, for me anyway, is expensive. Try the Tales Of Asia site.

You can do it in reverse too. Though most people will do it HCMC-PP, the same companies will package it going in the other direction. (Delta Adventure Tours, etc etc)

The only drawback is that since you%26#39;re swimming against the current, as it were, you may not be with the same group for the entire time - you may instead be bundled with groups heading in the opposite direction for one day, then another group the next day, etc.

Local PP travel agents can make the bookings.

Hi guys, thanks for your replies. Yes I did wonder what happens after the boat arrives in PP from SGN but I assumed that maybe they turned around and went back to SGN to pick up more new passengers. It%26#39;s just the fact that it isn%26#39;t advertised anywhere!

Yes there is the Victoria Hotel Speedboat which been suggested by a travel agent but I was more looking for a nice relaxing and leisurely way to see the river on my way home via HCMC plus the speedboat necessitates a stay at the Victoria Hotel which is 拢115 not including taxes and the Speedboat is $80 per person, so it%26#39;s not cheap. Still at least i know it can be done so its just a matter of finding the right way for the right price!

Thanks again for your advice!

I%26#39;m hoping to do the same thing at the end of Feb! My friend in PP is looking into it now. I will keep you posted. I do know it can be done. We are interested in a one night trip and not a home stay.

Adomatic, do let me know how that goes!

If it helps, I inquired with Delta tours [sgnkimcafe@deltaadventuretours.com]

and they said we can do their usual itinerary in reverse for $64 per person including 2 nights which seems good value but 1 night would be better for us as we have limited time.

it was also suggested to do the speedboat as I said above and I have been given some details of PP based boat charters but I actually think this is one area where an organized boat tour might be just right, it%26#39;s been done hundreds of times before and is a well-oiled machine (quite literally I hope, in the case of the boat!)

I am also going to contact a couple of other very well known agents in the area, as I%26#39;m sure one will have the right offer.

Feel free to PM me if you want to pick my brains any more, I have been doing a lot of research lately!

Have you contacted Sinh Cafe in HCMC?

I%26#39;m doing the same trip but going the the other way - HCMC to PP early next year.

I have used Sinh Cafe in October this year for a Mekong Delta trip and they are very well organized and reliable - answer all my emails within 24 hours.

Their trip from HCMC to PP is US$51 and drops people off at the Capitol office in PP (near the Museum I think).

Might be worth contacting Capitol in PP or Sinh Cafe in HCMC.

Thanks for the advice, both good options - I have read about Sinh Cafe but I remember various discussions about it being so famous there were fake ones who have setup websites claiming to be Sinh Cafe, so if you happen to know how I can tell the right one from the imposters that would be great!

Yes, there are lots of copycat companies and websites. I walked past about 5 Sinh Cafes over a distance of about 200 metres in Hanoi.

The real one is here - http://www.sinhcafevn.com/

Thie contact details are - 246-248 DeTham, Q1, Ho Chi Minh City. Tel: (08) 8367338 - 8376833

It looks like the Sinh Cafe only offers trip from HCMC to PP. We are both interested in doing the reverse.

We just returned, and the highlight of our trip was the ';slow'; boat from PP to Chau Duc in the Mekong Delta. We were the only two on the boat.

It does take all day. The cost is $10. We then spent two nights in Chau Duc then took a bus to HCMC, which took about 8 hours, and the road was very bad. I%26#39;m not sure about boats from the Mekong to HCMC.
