Siem Reap 6d/5n May 2009 - Tuk Tuk Charges

Will be visiting SR in May 09. Would like to find out roughly how much must I allocate for the transportation for that duration. Planned to visit the main temples(near%26amp; far) and Tonle Sap. A guesthouse quoted me US$58.50 per person for transportation only. Do you all think I will be able to get a better rate from the roadside tuk tuk? Will that pose a problem? Thanks all, in advance.

That sounds cheap. If you plan on visiting outlying temples or having the guy meeet you early for sunrises you%26#39;re going to be paying a lot more than that. $10-$40 per day, depending on where you%26#39;re going. If you do pick a guy off the street, discuss your propsed schedule first, and see what he says before you agree on any price.

how many of you are there? If it is just you, then that%26#39;s a great price, if its more than just you, then it depends!

Prices for tuktuks is around 8-12$ a day depending for the main angkor area, with generally a few more $ for sunrise starts and going further afield

Where else are you planning on going? are you going to get a week long pass to angkor?

When I was there in October, tuk tuks were charging $15 per day - more if you were going to the further out temples.

Again, I was there 2 weeks ago, for an entire week, and you should pay no more than $10 for the small circuit, an additional $3 for a sunrise, according to a price list in my guesthouse. The list also states-

Large circuit- $11

Beng Mealea + Roluos Group- $29

Kompong Plok (floating village) + Roluos Group- $21

Large Circuit + Banteay Srei-$16 (additional $5 to go to Kbal Spean)

These prices are not negotiable but if a guy wants to charge you $15 for the small circuit, you can negotiate the price down a few dollars.

That rate sounds good, if it%26#39;s just one person!

Otherwise if there%26#39;s two of you, I%26#39;d suggest prebooking and using the one tuktuk driver for the full week, as you%26#39;ll develop a nice relationship and ensure you don%26#39;t need to keep negotiating prices everyday.

I had a very reliable driver called Soyean - he was $13 per day. I found him from these forums, thanks to other recommendations. If interested, website: http://tuktuks.weebly.com/

Or, if there%26#39;s more than two, get an airconditioned car.... costs $25 per day or upwards.

Hi Maneki-neko,

What is the name of the guuest house you stayed in with a price list for the Tuktuks? Could you tell me their room rates ? Thank you.

Best regards,

Hi alr837,

It will be just 2 of us. Planned to get a 3-day temple pass and visit the following:

Main Angkor

Beng Mealea + Roluos Group

Kompong Plok (floating village)

Large Circuit + Banteay Srei + Kbal Spean

Museum + city tour/shopping

Sunrise + sunset.

Booked Bou Savy guesthouse at USD15/night and since its low season they throw in a 10% discount.

BTW, is getting a guide necessary? Planned to get one maybe for a day or two.

In that case, I think you have quite a good deal, esp if it includes beng melea, kbal spean, and 3 days around Angkor!

have a great time! Make sure you go to bantay srei too - and stop at aki ra%26#39;s which is nearby!

hi alr837,

Thanks.

Can Beng Mealea be reached by tuk tuk? I read from some of the other posts that its quite a distance away from town... some 2hrs away... with bumpy road.

I%26#39;ve been to Beng Mealea both by tuk-tuk (a couple weeks ago) and by moto(2 years ago). Accessible by any means of transport.
