Sihanoukville - Cruise Port Stop

I will be travelling on a cruise that stops in Sihanoukville and I was hoping to get some advise on how to spend my day. We are only in port from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. I prefer to do my own thing when in Port on a cruise rather than booking a tour directly from the cruise ship as they tend to be extremly overpriced and you usually don%26#39;t get a fully realistic sense of the place. Anyways, I was wondering what the best way would be to spend the day, and if it is at all possible to get from Sihanoukville to Angkor Wat in that short amount of time? I am guessing no, because the cruise is offering a 3 day overland excursion to see Ankor Wat (for an outrageous price!!!). I am open to any suggestions for how to spend the day! I have never been to Cambodia (or SE Asia) before, so I am really excited to see it!

Thanks!

from sihanoukville to phnom penh is a good 3 hours ( or 3.5 hrs) by bus, and then seim reap another 6 hrs by bus so theres no way you can do that leg and see angkor wat in one day

im not sure what you mean by cruise offering you a 3 day overland to angkor wat , when youve said only in port 7am to 5pm ( can you rejoin boat day 3 in another port ?)

why not just enjoy sihanoukville and its surrounds?

theres lots of little islands youcan hire a boat and go see. Theres also quite a few beaches around that area with eateries and bars.

you could try and hire taxi and go into phnom penh but its a good 3 hrs or so each way - theres the killing fields, museum, waterfront area, markets but youd have to be careful and watch time and allow only 4 hrs max in phnom penh - the drive will take you past some local villages and sights so you d ge tto see some of the country

Sihanoukville is beaches, not much else. Most people go there to chill out and eat seafood. Hop on a tuk-tuk and head to Otres beach, sit on the beach all day and eat some fish tacos, drink some Angkor beer and be happy!
